Just 18 years old, Kobe Bryant played in 71 games (six starts) in 1996-97 and helped the Lakers reach the Western Conference semifinals. He averaged 7.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game, scored in double figures 25 times, shot a steady 81.9 percent from the free-throw line and finished fourth on the team with 51 3-point field goals. Bryant was recognized for his play with a spot on the All-Rookie Second Team, along with Ray Allen, Kerry Kittles, Travis Knight and Matt Maloney. First-Team honors went to Allen Iverson, Stephon Marbury, Antoine Walker, Marcus Camby and Shareef Abdur-Rahim.
